In the small Bosnian town of Tesanje things appear calm in the aftermath of the ravaging war. People seem warm and open, and the town square is an inviting meeting point for its inhabitants. But look closer and there is a seedy underbelly of corruption, ethnic intolerance and crime. When an announcement is made that Bill Clinton plans to visit, the town leaps into action, energised by the prospect of their little haven being thrust onto the world stage. In a race to beat the clock, the inhabitants have seven days to make Tesanje sparkle. With crooked cops and local gangsters working together to spruce up the town'the brothel owner has to pretend his establishment is really a cultural centre'crime is swept under the carpet and a façade assembled.
