“Here was my whole world - home, school, movies and God.”
A love song and eulogy to the city of Liverpool, Of Time and the City is director Terence Davies's (Distant Voices, Still Lives; The House of Mirth; The Long Day Closes) homage to the city of his youth, his birthplace and hometown. Returning after an eight-year absence from filmmaking, Davies combines archival footage and original material with his raspy voiceover and selective musical choices to create a highly personal look at the city he loves.
Encompassing the hard-working washerwomen on the streets, football mania, over-decorated churches and the depressing tower blocks of the 60s - Davies presents the Liverpudlian world like never before.
“It is by turns tender, lyrical, angry, shrewd and, above all, funny. This tough, unsentimental film refuses to use clichés.” - Guardian
