Wes Anderson returns with a tale of inclement weather, off-kilter community and (very) young love.
It's the 1960s and on a small island off the coast of New England, eccentric 12-year-olds Sam and Suzy fall in love and decide to run away. With a storm brewing offshore, the sleepy town is thrown into uproar as Suzy's parents (Bill Murray and Frances McDormand), social services (Tilda Swinton), a renegade Scout Master (Edward Norton) and the long-suffering Sheriff (Bruce Willis) race to find the missing kids.
Fresh from opening the Cannes Film Festival and boasting an all-star cast, Moonrise Kingdom is perhaps writer-director Wes Anderson's most ambitious and far-reaching film to date. Fuelled by his unparalleled eye for character, colour and quirk, Anderson has crafted a funny, sumptuous and joyfully inexplicable paean to the redemptive power of onrushing catastrophe.
“One of Mr. Anderson's supreme achievements: it's wondrously beautiful, often droll and at times hauntingly melancholic.” - New York Times
