"You think we damaged you? So what? That's what parents do!" – Caleb Fang
Adult siblings Baxter (Jason Bateman, who also directs) and Annie (Nicole Kidman) are still scarred from a traumatic childhood: their eccentric parents, Caleb (Christopher Walken) and Camille (Maryann Plunkett), are artists best known for their elaborate public hoaxes, and would force their children into participating in disturbing performance pieces (while also referring to them to them as Child A and Child B throughout their adolescence). But when Caleb and Camille go missing under mysterious circumstances, their offspring can't be sure if it's another hoax or not.
Based on Kevin Wilson's bestselling debut novel from 2011, The Family Fang is a dark, often caustically funny and at times disturbing drama adapted by Pulitzer-winning screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole). A poignant exposition of the human condition and our lifelong struggle to understand family, it's a beautifully acted, intimately layered work.
"Kidman and Bateman make a potent team in a provocative film that questions the limits of art in a world that forgets to be human." – Rolling Stone
