Dina and Scott just want to get married. But when you're neurologically diverse, little in life is that simple, as this Sundance award winner reveals.
Dina is bold and confident. Scott is shy and devoted. Both have a 'smorgasbord of mental health issues', from Autism Spectrum Disorder to OCD to anxiety, that mean life is, and has always been, difficult. Yet in each other they’ve discovered something that means they’re both stronger than they were before. The wedding is in a few weeks, but Scott is terrified of intimacy, and Dina is carrying profound traumas of her own, and it’s going to take every ounce of patience and understanding to make their love work.
Executive produced by Christine Vachon, Dina is a heartfelt and heart-melting portrait of love in all its strangeness and wonder from directorial team Dan Sickles and Antonio Santini. Shot like a work of fiction and driven by an incredible intimacy – Sickles has known Dina his entire life and their rapport is palpable – Dina is a film that will bust your preconceptions of mental illness and leave you cheering for a pairing so impossible it just has to work. Picking up the Grand Jury Prize (US Documentary) at Sundance, this is a unique film, right down to its score, courtesy of Michael Cera.
