"One of the year's most arresting, heartfelt indies." – Los Angeles Times
In a San Fernando Valley fired bright with sun, young slacker Jane (Dree Hemingway, daughter of Mariel and great-granddaughter of Ernest) picks up a bargain at gruff, elderly Sadie's garage sale. When Jane later discovers thousands of dollars hidden in her purchase, she attempts to return the cash to Sadie, and an unlikely bond develops that spans the women's generations and dislodges long-held secrets.
Flowing from disarmingly sweet scenes of burgeoning camaraderie and amusing clashes with Jane's dropkick housemates to the confronting, sexually graphic on-set world of the adult film industry, Starlet weaves an intriguing tale of two women isolated in very different ways. Shot beautifully and with fully drawn characters, this surprising film, which premiered at last year's SXSW Festival, exudes warmth without succumbing to the saccharine.
"A thrillingly, unexpectedly good American movie about love and a moral awakening." – New York Times
