Box Office Hours

The Box Office is open one (1) hour before the first screening until fifteen (15) minutes after the final screening commences.

All MIFF box offices are cashless, only EFTPOS and credit card are accepted. Cash will not be accepted.

Built in 1928, the Comedy Theatre is a blend of European flavours. The exterior is a replica of a Florentine palace and the interior shows a strong Spanish influence. The venue still maintains a lot of its original characteristics including balcony seating, a generous foyer and an elegant staircase.

The Comedy Theatre recently underwent a significant refurbishment, which included new seats, new air conditioning and some upgraded amenities on the dress circle level.

Box Office

The Box Office is located through a single door to the left of the main Comedy Theatre entrance, towards the corner of Lonsdale Street. There are three steps to enter through this door. For step-free access, there is a ramp located on the right of the main Comedy Theatre entrance and the box office is across the foyer, past the bar area.

Food and Beverage

Comedy Theatre features three locations for refreshments, snacks, beer and wine. Two bars are accessible from the ground floor foyer, a larger bar on the left-hand side and a smaller bar on the right-hand side. A third bar is located upstairs in the Dress Circle foyer.

Accessibility

The Comedy Theatre has three entrances, all located on Exhibition Street.

  • The main entrance is located in the centre of the building, there is a small step that reduces to a lip towards the right of the entry. Doors are usually propped open during performances.
  • For step-free/wheelchair access, there is a ramp on the right-hand side of the main entrance.
  • The third entrance is through a single door, on the left of the main entrance towards the corner of Lonsdale Street. This entrance opens directly to the Box Office and bar.

All entrances lead into a small foyer, which can become quite congested. MIFF Front of House staff and volunteers will assist with patron flow through this space.

From the foyer, there are two large staircases with handrails on the left and right that lead to the Dress Circle. There is no step-free/wheelchair access to the Dress Circle.

There is step-free access from the foyer through to the Stalls.

Please see How to Book Your Ticket if you require step-free and/or wheelchair access at the Comedy Theatre.

Entry into the Stalls is from the foyer to the rear of the Theatre through four doors. All entrances to the stalls are step-free/wheelchair accessible. There are three wheelchair-accessible spaces with companion seats available in the Stalls, with entry from the side doors.

Side aisle seating is irregularly numbered. Although the aisles themselves are raked, the back seating rows have a slight step, providing a level footing surface for the audience.

Entry into the Dress Circle is via two further staircases from the Dress Circle foyer to a central aisle. There is steeply tiered seating up and down from the central aisle on the left and right side.

All seats are upholstered in synthetic leather. The seats are tip down seat bases.

Please see How to Book Your Ticket if you require step-free and/or wheelchair accessible seating in the Stalls  at the Comedy Theatre. Please approach a MIFF Front of House staff member for assistance when you arrive at the venue.

There are bathrooms located both on the Stalls level and upstairs on the Dress Circle level.

An accessible gender-neutral bathroom is located on the Stalls/Foyer level.
